FF 91 at CES 2017 in Las Vegas.
The most impressive car show presented at CES 2017 was the one organized by Faraday Future, which unveiled its future EV called the FF 91.
Faraday Future is an American start-up technology company based in Silicon Valley and Southern California, that aims to deliver premium quality, intuitive, and seamlessly connected electric cars to people around the world.
Even before the presentation of the new EV, rumors said that Faraday Future will produce not only another electric vehicle, but actually a Tesla killer.
The car that was unveiled at CES 2017 on the evening of January 3, 2017, seem to be faster on track even than a Tesla Model S with the Ludicrous upgrade because it does 0 to 60 mph in just 2.39 seconds (while Tesla reaches the same speed in 2.5 seconds).
The range of the vehicle is also better than the range provided by Tesla for its models S or X, because the technology behind the battery pack used in this vehicle is more advanced than anything on the market today.
Faraday Future uses the world’s highest energy density battery cell that provides a very powerful battery pack for the vehicle.
The 130-kilowatt hour battery pack used by the FF 91 provides an EPA “adjusted” range of 378 miles (605 km), while Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous with its 100 kWh battery pack can provide a top range of only 315 miles (504 km).
We already know that Tesla Model S P100D comes with all-wheel drive (AWD), and uses two electric motors (one in the front and the other in the rear).
FF 91 provides the same all-wheel drive (AWD), but uses 3-phase permanent magnet motors that develop 1,050 HP, and a huge torque of 1,800 Nm.
The car comes with autonomous driving, which receives data from a LiDAR radar and a number of 30 sensors.
The vehicle also provides a function for self-parking that can even hunt for a parking spot, and park the vehicle without the presence of the driver.
The driver will receive a message from the car on its mobile phone when the vehicle will be parked.
An intelligent entity?
Faraday Future engineers say that this is not an ordinary EV, is actually an intelligent entity that can drive and park the vehicle for you, it can identify the driver using facial recognition software, so there is no need of door handles or keys to open or to start the vehicle.
Once entered the car, the software will adjust the temperature for you, will load your preferred music and movies, email, and so on.
This is actually a connected entity with its user (the driver and the passengers of the vehicle).
The show presented by Faraday Future at CES 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, unveiled a green vehicle that seems to come from a not so distant future of humanity.
No retail price announced?
No price has been yet announced by the company, but insiders said that the retail price for the FF 91 will be around $180,000.
The company already stated that the production of the FF 91 will start in early 2018, and those interested to reserve the vehicle must register on FF.com and place a $5,000 refundable deposit, which comes with the option to upgrade to the limited 300 launch-only “Alliance Edition”.
This is all very similar to what Tesla does when launches a new vehicle, actually I forgot to mention that Faraday Future consists of former Tesla, Apple, Ferrari and BMW employees, backed by Chinese capital.
Some critics have already said at the end of 2016, that the company (Faraday Future), is on the brink of collapse because they’ve emerged only two years ago, and at the previous CES (2016) instead of showing an electric vehicle, they’ve shown only a Batmobile-like static concept vehicle.
However, even if the company has delayed the construction of its $1 billion Nevada factory, they claim that FF 91 will enter the production line in early 2018.
We need to wait one more year to see if this EV will affect Tesla’s sales, in my opinion, it won’t affect anything, because Tesla has the Model 3, which was created for the masses.
Most of the drivers don’t need an expensive EV that can do 0 to 60 mph in just 2.39 seconds, they are happy with an affordable EV that protects the environment, provides a decent range, and comes with a network of public charging stations.
